FAQs
Before you start seeking quotes from pool builders, you need to:
Check Building RestrictionsThere may be building restrictions on the site which could affect siting. You will need to find:
- A copy of the title – for accurate boundary dimensions and any covenants or easements on the property
- A sewer plan from your local water authority – for sewer pipes and drainage easements
- A site plan from your builder or local municipal council – for the location of sewer pipes and drainage easements
- The location of other service lines, including gas and electrical lines
Landscape Design
Although we can help design your pool, swimming area design magazines can be very helpful in getting an idea of what you like. Clip out pictures and make notes of materials and colours you like and dislike.
Why is landscape design so important to swimming pool renovations/construction?
Incorporating landscape design with design of the pool for swimming or play means that all features that have to be included in the garden are taken into consideration. These may include:
- A service area for compost, water filtration etc.
- Clothes lines
- Work sheds or storage areas
- Barbeque and outdoor eating areas
- Children’s play equipment
- Pet-friendly areas
- Fencing
The other key issue in landscape design is the limitations that swimming pool construction places on planting.
For example, nearby plants and grasses need to be resistant to chemicals in the water and probably saline water. Our landscape architects can discuss all of the related issues with you.
Some councils require that the area be completely surrounded by an approved childproof safety fence with self-closing gates, while other municipalities will accept existing boundary fences as a suitable barrier. In this case, doors and windows from the house may be fitted with self-closing mechanisms and child-resistant latches.
In Victoria, the best time to start planning is February/March.
Allow two to three weeks of forward planning and a further two weeks to obtain quotations and select pool builders. It will take the engineer a further four weeks to design the pool for swimming or play and to go through the process of applying for council permits. (In the pre-Christmas rush this can take up to two months.)
Ideally, the pool builders will commence excavation in April/May whilst the ground is still dry. This allows swimming pool construction to be completed at the end of July before the spring rains, which can hamper and delay construction.
Allow two weeks after construction completion for services to be connected, fencing erected etc.
It will take around four weeks more to complete the landscaping works. This means that planting and lawn laying takes place at the beginning of spring, which is the ideal time of the year.
From design of pool for swimming or recreation through to swimming pool construction, we will work with you to create a tailored, naturally beautiful outdoor area.
